*How can we use radio for women’s empowerment?
In their daily life, women and specially rural women are the core of the community, in charge, from generation to generation, of the management of the household, the transmission of the cultural heritage; but when comes the time to take decisions that can influence the future of the community, because of the weakness of their resources, their illiteracy and cultural inhibitions, they are marginalized.

Radio can be used to implement open and distance training programme to empower rural women by giving them the skills to be able to become efficient actors in the development of their community and not only beneficiaries.

*What are the strategies and opportunities for linking rural women with
radio?

Some strategies from PROTEGE QV's experience; by ensuring:

the relevancy of the content of radio programs (field survey to really identify the needs of the rural women)

the accessibility of the messages (language used should be the one practiced by the most, time of broadcasting corresponds to the time of listening, that means after farming hours)

the affordability of the material (radio sets available in homes)

community participation (the speakers should belong to the community, and preferably women they know, their mates, so that the subjects are addressed by someone who is supposed to have the same problems)

Opportunities:

Educated mothers are less hampered by social and cultural inhibitions and become able to contribute more effectively to the society, to the quality of their children’s education, and to the management of the household.
