Hello everyone,
I have just joined this list so I would like to introduce myself. I am in
charge of women and ICT projects at CDÉACF (Centre de documentation sur
l'éducation des adultes et la condition féminine, http://cdeacf.ca), a
community-based documentation centre specializing in literacy, adult
education and women's issues in Québec and French-speaking Canada. We offer
print documentation as well as online Web sites, including, as well as the
main site : a literacy site (http://espacealpha.cdeacf.ca) and a women's
site (http://netfemmes.cdeacf.ca). CDÉACF focuses on so-called "grey
literature', that is, documentation produced by community-based
organizations and women's groups and not usually found in mainstream
libraries or bookstores. We also have a "virtual library" which at the
moment contains the first online collection, on women's issues - "la
Collection F" (http://bv.cdeacf.ca). It will be expanded to include
collections on community action and adult education.
Members of CDÉACF are based throughout Québec and Canada, in both urban and
rural environments. One of the projects we are working on at the moment - in
collaboration with other women's networks - looks specifically at the needs
of women in rural communities and aims to provide online tools for training
in different areas, such as sensitization around conjugal violence and
involvement in democratic processes, and eventually, support in entering the
labour market.
I look forward to learning from all of you!

Objet : [Ict4ruralwomeninafrica] Moving on to the next questions
Greetings All,
Thank you for the contributions thus far! It is very interesting to read
about the innovative initiatives and projects. I am finding the learnings
particularly interesting and am reaslising how important evaluation is in
relation to the ongoing success of projects.
Today we move onto the second goal and related questions to guide
our discussion. A reminder that you are welcome to respond to and
engage with postings and please feel welcome to send in resources
and references which would be useful to the e-consultation participants.
Goal 2 : Understand how to make existing information infrastructure
more gender inclusive and responsive to the information and
development needs of rural and disadvantaged women.
*What are the opportunities and challenges facing rural information
centres?
*How can these information centres be used to facilitate
rural women’s development?
*What strategies and processes have worked in the different contexts
where you work/live, in making existing public access infrastructure
more accessible for women and inclusive of their concerns?
Warm Regards,
Jenny
