My name is Miriam Byekwaso, working with an NGO called Via Via the meeting Place based in Arusha. Am a field officer for AHEAD project (Arumeru Holistic Empowerment and Development) we are 4 organizations implementing this project, WEGCC (Women Economic Groups Coordination Council), WADEC (Women in Agriculture Development and Enviromental Concervation), BEST (Busness Entrepreneureship Support Tanzania) and VIA VIA dealing with facilitation of Cultural identity and rural art development.

The problems i have mostly experienced are traditional problems and others are christian religious beliefs. Traditionally the women are not given opportunities like men, they are regarded as home keepers and not allowed to speek like men. In developmental activities their men do not allow them to be involved and because our focus is on women, then we invite the women together with their husbands in our sensitization and Mobilization meetings. In these meetings, we the women are the ones who talk to the community and NOT men. By doing so, the men become aware of the ability of women to adress issues and help in income generating avtivities for the families.

We also encourage the women in our meetings to explain/present something to enable them to get used to speeking infront of people and infront of their men.

I still have more to share.

Kind regards,
